Our Story

Once upon a crumb

Once Upon a Crumb will establish a bakery and coffee house creating a successful business in the heart of Eldersburg, Maryland at route 32 and 26.  Once Upon a Crumb will provide the local community a variety of fresh options to include custom cakes, pastries and warm coffee, based on local wholesome ingredients.  Creating a successful business will enable us to provide tasty alternatives for those with allergies or dietary restrictions and allow us to commit to being an equal opportunity employer.

Hi!   Brittany and Heidi here and we are the devoted women behind the delicious Once Upon a Crumb Bakery & Coffee House.

Our passion to bake all started about 8 years ago when Brittany was getting her degree in Baking and Pastry from the Art Institute of Philadelphia and Heidi was baking health bars for fun for her gym buddies in the weight room.

More recently, about 4 years ago, we began our own sole proprietorships.  Brittany designs and sells unique custom cakes for any occasion.  Heidi bakes and sells a variety of healthy protein bars, scones, breads and cookies.  Heidi and Brittany both specialize in customized orders to meet the allergenic needs of our customers, to include: gluten free, low sugar, vegan, paleo, and tree nut/peanut free*.

Heidi, who has a Masters Degree in Special Education, has devoted her entire adult life to working with children with special needs.  She is committed to providing employment opportunities and job training to individuals with special needs from the community and would like to use Once Upon a Crumb as a way to provide these opportunities.

Having both grown up in Carroll and Baltimore County, Heidi and Brittany have deep ties to the area and are passionate about the community. We both volunteer in the local area, Heidi with the Autism Society of America and Brittany for the Regional Skills USA Baking Competition, run by the Carroll County Career and Technology Center.  “We would love to see our vision of a locally owned, community based establishment become a reality”.

Heidi and Brittany seek to expand their passions to a storefront and share it with those residing in the local community through Once Upon A Crumb.

We are Tastefully Thankful for your support!
